According to Motorway police, Rauf Khalid received serious injures in a traffic accident near Sheikhupura as he was coming to Islamabad from Lahore via motorway.
Reports said the tyre of his car burst and it crashed into roadside fence, killing Rauf on the spot.
The late actor was son-in-law of late provincial minister Syed Zafar Ali Shah and brother-in-law of Provincial Minister for Health Syed Zahir Shah.
He is survived by a wife two sons and a daughter.
His family sources said the creative filmmaker and television writer met the tragedy when he was on way to Islamabad from Lahore via the Motorway. According to the Motorway Police, he sustained critical injuries in the accident and was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Sheikhupura where he succumbed to his injuries. He is survived by his widow, two sons and a daughter.
He was a creator and writer of Famous Pakistani Drama “Angar Wadi” and “Laag”. He also wrote a popular Pakistan television drama Maddar in 1989.
He partially directed thriller, Madaar, a seven-episode serial exposing drug trafficking, telecast from PTV Quetta centre. In 1991, he wrote Guest House a 52-episode comedy series that turned out to be a popular comedy series for PTV.
Rauf Khalid released his debut film Laaj, as (writer, director, producer and actor). The film Laaj won 12 Bolan Awards, 14 Graduate Awards, 4 National Film Awards and Luxstyle Award. In 2008, Rauf Khalid also produced his third television serial ‘Mishaal’ as writer and director.
Rauf was the founder President and Chancellor of the National Institute of Cultural Studies, Lok Virsa Islamabad. He also owns a chain of eastern restaurants the Virsa the Heritage Cafe.
He was the brother-in-law of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister and PPP leader Syed Zahir Ali Shah. His funeral prayer will be offered today at 3pm at the Government Higher Secondary School No 1 near Hashtnagri in Peshawar.
