Mumtaz Qadri appeals death penalty in Lahore High Court

Malik Mumtaz Hussain Mumtaz Qadri on Thursday appealed to the anti-terrorism court to the death penalty in a murder case in our assessment of the Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer.

The complaint was filed with the court in Islamabad by senior counsel Raja Shuja Rehman, challenging the death sentence awarded by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on 1 October. ATV Mumtaz Qadri had previously sentenced the murderer confessed Salman Taseer, death. Qadri, one of Taseer elite force of guards shot and killed the governor for his views on the outside of the blasphemy law of a restaurant in Islamabad on January 4 this year.

The appeal had 11 points, a lawyer argued that the ATC has no jurisdiction to convict him to the authorities, so the decision was unlawful.

President of the Supreme Court (IHC), Justice Iqbal Hameed ur Rehman adjourned the matter for discussion on October 11 Division and the bank (DB) of the TSI, the case.

"This decision is illegal and unjustified ... the way the ATC judge announced the decision without consulting our point of view is completely contrary to the law," Qadri said the lawyer.
