US for long-term ties with Pakistan: Hillary

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton comes to Pakistan tomorrow (Friday) Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday the media.

The source said Clinton met top political leaders and military officials in the country during his visit.

The United States wants a "long term" security relationship with Pakistan, Hillary Clinton said Thursday, moving to calm tensions with the killing of Osama bin Laden in Islamabad.

"It's in our national security interests for a global security partnership with Pakistan long term ..." Clinton told reporters in Paris on the sidelines of a meeting of economic development of the organization of the OECD.

The U.S. military said Wednesday he started to pull some troops from Pakistan, Islamabad's request after the discovery of al-Qaeda of bin Laden, has raised questions about how it went unnoticed in Pakistan.

Clinton moved to calm tensions.

"We have a set of expectations that we are looking for the Pakistani government to meet, but I want to emphasize that it's not as if they were away," she said.

"They participated actively in their own bitter struggle with the terrorists".

Pakistan has formally allied with the United States after September 11, 2001 in its war against the Taliban and Al Qaeda, but has long been accused of a double game by supporting networks of Islamic militants.

"There were times when we had disagreements. There were times when we wanted to push harder, for various reasons, they (the Pakistanis) are not," said Clinton. "These differences are real and will continue.

"We are ready and willing to support the people and government of Pakistan as defend their democracy."
