Lady Gaga delivered a personal video message, Friday, to a west-end Toronto school for its equality assembly to fight against homophobia.
In the video played to students at the Etobicoke School of the Arts, the pop superstar praised them for being strong advocates for their lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.
She told them, quote, "There should be more little monsters like you."
The video message of the artist known for his hit "born that way" praised the efforts of the school and in particular student council president Jacques Saint-Pierre to bring the issue of bullying in the front -garde.
"Born this way" has become the anthem for the LBGQT (lesbian, bi-sexual, gay, queer and transgender) community.
"I just wanted to tell you how proud I am of you for being such a strong advocate of the LBGT community in your school. There should be more little monsters like you," said the singer, who refers to her fans as "little monsters."
"It is important that we push the boundaries of love and acceptance. It is important that we spread tolerance and equality for all students."
Gaga also pledged to work hard to "make bullying a hate crime."
"I am a huge fan of hers, so I was crying, I was jumping up and down, I was all over the place," he said, speaking to how he felt when he saw the video.
MacKinnon told 680News that's pretty much the reaction students had as well.
"Great attention for a very worthwhile subject, so if Lady Gaga is the one to bring attention to it, then go Gaga," he said.
MacKinnon said they kept the video a secret from the rest of the students until Friday's event, and thinks students got the message.
"It was a great message from her, underlying was don't bully and be kind to each other," he said.
The video was when St. Pierre, a victim of bullying himself, sent a petition to the star's personal thoughts on bullying.
