Dan Wheldon was killed today in a 15 car accident in lap 13 at Las Vegas speedway. Thoughts and prayers are with family and friends.

Facilitate flared at the special session of the City Council on October 5, The Council approved a motion to censure Councillor Ray Weldon. According to a movement of the document, Weldon has worked against the Council, and as evidence of disloyalty to the city through its contentious

Edmonton half-back David Pittman was injured, Weldon came later, and he has not abandoned his post. Bravo to this man who truly embodies the type of player we really want, "said Reed. Brown said he tried not to stress about what

Wheldon, the 33-year-old winner of the Indianapolis 500 in May, left behind wife Susie and two sons - two-year-old Sebastian and seven-month-old Oliver.

Drivers completed a five-lap tribute to Wheldon at the Las Vegas track after hearing the tragic news. The race featured 34 cars - the most in series history for any event outside of Indianapolis.

The congested field was considered a factor in the chain reaction that occurred after the wheels of Wade Cunningham and JR Hildebrand touched. Pole-sitter Tony Kanaan said a large IndyCar field racing at more than 220mph on high-banked ovals had "potential for disaster".

"Now we need to re-think the way we're doing things," Kanaan told ESPN.

Wheldon's good friend Franchitti, 38, added: "Believe me, we will address it and find a solution. "But today is not the day to talk about that. This is a day to remember Dan." Straight after the crash, Franchitti, who had known Wheldon since he was six, said: "I said before this is not a suitable track.

"You can't get away from anybody. One small mistake and you have a massive wreck."

Driver Oriol Servia added: "We all had a bad feeling about this place in particular just because of the high banking and how easy it was to go flat. "We knew it could happen, but it's just really sad."

It presents a dilemma for IndyCar organisers who want racing at large ovals like Las Vegas to bring in more fans. The Las Vegas round was only the third race Wheldon had contested in 2011.
